A beautiful, fall-like Friday provided the backdrop for Montgomery County officials, first responders and community members to celebrate an important milestone in emergency services.
The Montgomery County Commission hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, Sept. 25, at Waugh-Mt. Meigs Fire/Rescue, recognizing an expanded partnership with Haynes Ambulance and the completion of a new facility designed to strengthen emergency medical response in the area.

The partnership will station Haynes Ambulance personnel at the Waugh-Mt. Meigs Fire/Rescue facility, bringing advanced life support capabilities closer to residents in eastern Montgomery County.
The arrangement represents an important enhancement to the emergency response network serving the area. Most volunteer fire departments throughout Montgomery County are equipped to provide basic life support services. While those departments play a critical role in responding to emergencies, patients requiring advanced medical care may need additional resources before they can be transported to an emergency facility.
By stationing Haynes Ambulance at Waugh-Mt. Meigs Fire/Rescue, advanced life support services will now be positioned within the community. That means trained personnel can more rapidly administer advanced medical treatment when needed and transport patients to an emergency facility without waiting for an ambulance to respond from its base in the City of Montgomery.
In an emergency, those saved minutes can be especially important.
The expanded partnership is also expected to improve coordination among volunteer firefighters, emergency medical personnel and other first responders serving Montgomery County. Having those resources working from the same location can help create a more efficient response when residents call for assistance.

Friday’s ribbon cutting celebrated both the completion of the facility and the collaboration among Montgomery County, Waugh-Mt. Meigs Fire/Rescue and Haynes Ambulance that made the expanded service possible.
For Waugh, Mt. Meigs and surrounding communities, the milestone represents more than a new facility. It brings additional emergency medical resources closer to the people who may need them and strengthens the network of first responders serving residents throughout the area.
The Waugh-Mt. Meigs Volunteer Fire Department has a long history of serving the community through the dedication of local volunteers. The addition of advanced life support and ambulance services at the station builds upon that foundation while providing another level of emergency care for residents.

As Montgomery County continues to grow, partnerships between county government, volunteer fire departments and emergency medical providers will remain an important part of meeting the public safety needs of residents.
Friday’s celebration marked another step in that effort — one focused on improving coordination, reducing response times and ensuring residents have access to critical emergency medical services when they need them most.
