In a rebuilding season after graduating six starting seniors and saying goodbye to a longtime head coach, Pike Road Wrestling delivered a statement performance, finishing runner-up in Round 1 of the Class 6A Region 2 Duals and advancing to next week’s second round.
Competing in a four-team field on the night that included Wetumpka (the round winner), Pike Road, Benjamin Russell, and Russell County, the Patriots leaned on depth, energy, and togetherness to push through in a crowded seven-team region that also features Stanhope Elmore, Percy Julian, and Park Crossing.

Beyond the results, the night was defined by cohesion and spirit. The Patriots cheered, surged, and responded to every momentum swing. The players, parents, and coaches, Steve Burrough, James Keith Posey, and Corbin Stewart, have helped to reach this point in the season. Pike Road Wrestling Alumni and 2024 state placers Ethan Holloway, Myers Duncan, and Luke Dickinson were on hand to support the team, underscoring the program’s growing tradition.

- Senior Night: Thursday, Jan. 15, 5:30 p.m., home vs. Russell County. Seniors Kaeden Johnson and Michael Young will be recognized. Fans are encouraged to pack the gym.
- 6A Duals Round 2 at Wetumpka: Jan. 17 at 1 pm. The field includes Wetumpka, Pike Road, Gulf Shores, and Saraland.
In a year with tempered expectations, Pike Road’s Round 1 performance showed heart, grit, and growth—exactly the kind of foundation that can carry a team deep into January and hopefully to state.
