The town of Pike Road wants veterans to know their sacrifice is important and recognized, which is why town officials have now held a Veterans’ Appreciation Ceremony for 13 years.
The ceremony is the week before Veteran’s Day, which Mayor Gordon Stone says is a strategic move.
“We know that there are a lot of very important and significant veteran‘s celebrations on Veteran’s Day itself, and we don’t want to keep anybody from being a part of those,” he explained.
The event included speeches from Stone and Colonel Derrick Iwanenko, who serves out nearby Maxwell Air Force Base.
