The Pike Road High School girls golf team captured its fourth consecutive Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) state championship in 2024, cementing a run of sustained excellence that began with a single golfer and evolved into one of the state’s most successful programs.
The Patriots’ title streak, spanning 2021–2024, is a rare feat in AHSAA history. It reflects a rapid rise built on disciplined preparation, steady leadership, and a deepening roster that consistently delivered on the state’s biggest stage.
At the center of the program’s origin is Yvette Gorden, who launched Pike Road’s girls golf team as a seventh grader and became the school’s first golfer. Gorden finished in the top three at state in her debut and followed with another top-three finish the next season, setting a competitive standard as the roster grew. Her play drew collegiate interest, with recruiting attention from Anderson University and Huntingdon College.
As the program expanded, elite talent followed. Beka Yang emerged as one of Alabama’s top-five ranked girls golfers, earning multiple top-three finishes at the state championships. A Masters Drive, Chip & Putt competitor known for her consistency, Yang has committed to Samford University in Birmingham.
Sisters Lauryn and London Leonard added power and poise. Lauryn, a Masters Drive, Chip & Putt finalist and Stephen Curry’s Underrated Tour competitor, has committed to Southern University. London made school history as Pike Road’s youngest state champion, winning titles as a seventh and eighth grader. She delivered a personal-best round on the final day of the 2024 championship to help secure the four-peat.
Depth and leadership rounded out the dynasty. Lexi Bouasisavath contributed with a steady hand in one state championship appearance, while Marley Gorman provided leadership and depth throughout the run, reinforcing the culture that underpinned the team’s success.
Guiding it all was head coach Theodore Shores White, who built the program from the ground up. Under White, Pike Road transformed from a one-player startup into a unified, title-tested group defined by discipline, preparation, and team-first chemistry.
Beyond the trophies, Pike Road’s four-year reign spotlights what a school-community partnership can achieve. The program reflects academic strength, competitive diversity, and a pipeline of collegiate-bound athletes—hallmarks of a sustainable contender. For Pike Road Schools and the town it represents, the Patriots’ four-peat stands as a milestone achievement and a model of how belief, opportunity, and development can turn a vision into a dynasty.
