The Pike Road Diamond Club will host its annual preseason banquet and fundraiser benefiting the Pike Road baseball program on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at St. James Church. The event begins at 6 p.m. and will feature Legendary College Baseball Hall of Fame Coach Ron Polk, as the evening’s guest speaker.

Known as the Father of SEC baseball, Polk built Mississippi State into a national power across two head-coaching stints and also led programs at Georgia Southern and Georgia. Polk’s head-coaching career includes:
- Eight NCAA College World Series appearances, with teams from three different schools
- A 1,350-667-2 overall collegiate record and a 444-329 mark in SEC play
- Two National Coach of the Year honors (1973, 1985)
- 35 All-Americans and 76 All-SEC players coached
- 171 players who signed pro contracts, including 21 who reached Major League Baseball
Polk’s impact extends beyond the SEC. He served seven tours with USA Baseball—twice as head coach (1991, 1998) and five times as an assistant (1977, 1987, 1988, 1995, 1996)—and was on Olympic staffs that earned gold in 1988 (Seoul) and bronze in 1996 (Atlanta). He is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame (1995), the Mississippi State and Mississippi Sports Halls of Fame (1998), and the Georgia Southern University Hall of Fame (1990). He also authored The Baseball Playbook, a leading college textbook for the sport.
At Mississippi State, Polk’s legacy is enshrined at Dudy Noble Field, Polk-DeMent Stadium, reflecting his role in elevating the program and enhancing its facilities. His coaching journey has also included a volunteer assistant role at UAB (2009–20) and service as Special Assistant to the Athletic Director (2020–present).
