People in Pike Road are celebrating the opening of the town’s Center for History, Culture and Art.
The center involved the restoration of one of the oldest homes in the community. It was moved to a new location on Wallahatchie Road to become the cornerstone of what will be the Pike Road Arts District.
The center showcases local artists, tells stories of the community’s history and highlights the unique characteristics of the town.
“One of the things that makes Pike Road really, really special is the fact that our community has such a deep and rich history and has so many deep components. When we formed the town, we brought together so many things like different town centers and different elements of the past. So what we wanted to do here with our new seven-acre art district was find a cornerstone that would represent all the things that have led us to be here,” Pike Road Mayor Gordon Stone said.
The town wants to add a theater and a multipurpose building nearby.
