As summer break approaches, community leaders and volunteers across Pike Road are once again coming together to help ensure local children have access to food during the summer months.
The Pike Road Area Your Emergency Response Team, better known as the P.R.A.Y.E.R. Team, will launch its annual Summer Feeding Program beginning June 6. The program will provide weekly food packages every Saturday through July 25, excluding July 4 weekend, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Woodland Methodist Church.
Organizers say the effort is designed to support families whose children may lose access to school meal programs during the summer break. In addition to the main distribution site at Woodland Methodist Church, food packages will also be distributed through additional community pickup locations around town.
Stacy Dickinson, Ministry Coordinator at Woodland Methodist Church, said the program continues to grow because of the compassion and generosity of the Pike Road community.
“Summer can be a difficult time for many families when school is out and regular meal assistance is unavailable,” Dickinson said. “This program is about making sure children in our community know they are cared for and supported. Pike Road always steps up when there is a need, and we are grateful for every volunteer and donor who helps make this possible.”
According to organizers, the goal is to provide food assistance to hundreds of local children throughout the summer months. Community members are encouraged to donate or volunteer to help prepare and distribute food packages each week.
“The cost to help feed a child all summer is surprisingly small, but the impact is tremendous,” Dickinson said. “Whether someone can give financially, donate supplies, or simply volunteer a few hours on a Saturday morning, every contribution matters.”
The Summer Feeding Program is organized through the P.R.A.Y.E.R. Team, a partnership of local churches and community organizations operating through Pike Road’s ENHANCE initiative. The group works year-round to assist residents facing hardship and provide emergency support services throughout the community.
