The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) held a ribbon-cutting on a new sheriff’s office substation at the Shoppes at EastChase, located next door to Books-A-Million on EastChase Parkway. Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham joined local and county leaders during the event.
Cunningham said the EastChase location is designed to keep shops and shoppers safe by expanding law enforcement visibility and resources in one of the region’s busiest commercial corridors. “We’re just glad to be able to bring this partnership together and to be able to let our community know that we’re here, we’re gonna be here,” he said. “Feel safe, come shop, spend your money here, and you will see law enforcement.”
The sheriff emphasized the facility is more than an MCSO outpost; it’s intended as a shared space for multiple agencies serving East Montgomery and nearby Pike Road. “This is gonna be a hub for everybody in law enforcement. It’s not just about the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. It’s about us in law enforcement. From the Montgomery Police Department, from ALEA, to the Marshals, the ATF, the FBI, our local universities — this is a hub for law enforcement,” Cunningham said.
In an interview, Cunningham stated that the new location is designed to project a unified front and provide day-to-day operational support for officers of all ranks. He noted the inside of the substation features photos from participating agencies to underscore the message: “We’re united and our united efforts are to make sure that the citizens who live in Montgomery County are safe.”
He added that the substation provides a safe and convenient place for any officer working in the area — from a State Trooper to an ATF agent or a U.S. Marshal — to take a break, file reports, and maintain a visible presence in a key East Montgomery shopping district.
Cunningham also pointed to deterrence as a key outcome of the multi-agency presence. He said, “The message that we’re sending is that you may see some marked units and you may see some unmarked units. You don’t know what it looks like. We know what it looks like, and we’re glad to have it like that.”
During the ribbon cutting, EastChase co-owner Dr. Ishnella Azad welcomed the partnership. She stated that EastChase is committed to supporting families, businesses, and the broader community, while pledging to provide all necessary resources to law enforcement in EastChase.
Cunningham said the substation’s combined mission is simple: safer shopping and stronger collaboration. “Feel safe,” he said. “Come shop, and you will see law enforcement.”
