The Kiwanis Club of Pike Road continues its commitment to serving the Pike Road community by awarding a total of $8,000 in scholarships to four deserving seniors from Pike Road schools.
This announcement and presentation of the scholarships was announced by Club President Steve Straughn during the Pike Road Town Council meeting on May 12.
The recipients of these scholarships, each amounting to $2,000, are as follows:
- Addison Little from Macon East Academy, who will be attending Chattahoochee Valley Community College.
- Abigail Lugo Wenceslao from Pike Road High School, who is set to further her education at the University of South Alabama.
- Regan Frazer from Macon East Academy, who will be pursuing her studies at LaGrange College.
- Sophia Bishop from Pike Road High School, who will be embarking on her academic journey at the University of North Alabama.
The Kiwanis Club of Pike Road emphasizes the importance of community involvement and support for local students. President Steve Straughn highlighted the club’s core mission of making a positive impact on the town through scholarships and active participation in community events.
“The Kiwanis Club of Pike Road is a group of like-minded volunteers who are involved in projects that do make a difference. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life in our community. We serve together primarily to make an impact on our town by offering scholarships to worthy graduating seniors in the town of Pike Road as well as participating in other community events when help is needed,” Straughn said.
The scholarships awarded to the 2025 graduating seniors mark a significant milestone, bringing the total scholarships funded by the club to an impressive $27,000 over the span of four years.
The Kiwanis Club engages in various fundraising activities, including the annual 5K Family Fun Run in spring and the sale of Christmas ornaments featuring historic sites in Pike Road. These efforts enable the club to continue its invaluable support for young scholars in the community.
“The Kiwanis Club welcomes new members. It meets at noon on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at Cuco’s Restaurant,” Straughn said.
