The summer heat did not stop volunteers from gathering for the final Saturday of Woodland Methodist Church’s Summer Feeding Program, capping off a community-wide effort to help local families experiencing food insecurity.
Volunteers, families and members of the Pike Road football team and coaching staff worked together to distribute food and ensure the program’s final day was a success. Over the course of the summer, the program distributed approximately 47,000 pounds of food and served more than 200 children from an estimated 75 to 100 families.
The Pike Road Lions Club strengthened the effort with a $3,500 donation to support the Summer Feeding Program. Club President Dennis Fonville presented the check to program representatives Stacy Dickinson and Jimmy Lee.
The donation reflects the Lions Club’s focus on hunger relief, one of the organization’s primary areas of service, and its continued commitment to addressing food insecurity within the Pike Road community.
For those who volunteered, the gratitude expressed by participating families made the long, hot mornings especially meaningful. The program demonstrated what can be accomplished when churches, civic organizations, families, students, coaches and other community members unite around a shared purpose.
The Pike Road Lions Club extended its appreciation to Woodland Methodist Church, Dickinson, Lee, participating families, volunteers and the Pike Road football players and coaches who contributed their time and energy throughout the summer.
