Pike Road residents, business owners, and motorists who travel through the intersection of AL-126 and Wares Ferry Road are encouraged to review plans and provide feedback on a proposed roadway improvement project that could reshape one of the community’s busiest intersections.
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) held a Public Involvement meeting on Tuesday, June 30 at Pike Road Town Hall but are seeking additional public comments on a proposal to replace the existing two-way stop-controlled intersection with a modern roundabout. The public involvement period gives Pike Road area residents an opportunity to review the project and share their comments before the design is finalized.
The proposed roundabout is intended to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection, which serves as an important route for Pike Road residents and commuters traveling through eastern Montgomery County.
The project also includes roadway reconstruction and realignment, updated pavement markings and signage, lighting modifications, and other improvements needed to accommodate the new intersection design. Construction is expected to be phased to keep traffic moving through the intersection, with no detours anticipated.
The project was selected for funding as part of the Fiscal Year 2025 Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II) awards after being sponsored by Montgomery County. ATRIP-II projects focus on improving transportation infrastructure while enhancing safety and mobility throughout Alabama.
ALDOT is encouraging anyone who lives, works or regularly travels through the area to participate in the public involvement process by reviewing the proposed plans and submitting comments.
Feedback received during the comment period will be considered as the department continues to develop the project. Online comments will be accepted through Friday, July 10.
