Pike Road Schools to Announce New Superintendent at Special-Called Board Meeting

by Pike Road News

Pike Road Schools will hold a special-called Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, May 6, at 8:00 a.m., where district leaders are expected to announce the system’s next superintendent. The appointment will take effect July 1, 2026.

This meeting follows the recent announcement by Superintendent Dr. Keith Lankford that he will step down from his role effective June 30, 2026. The transition plan, approved by the Board of Education, outlines that Dr. Lankford will move into an assistant superintendent role beginning July 1, focusing on overseeing key capital projects before his planned retirement in early 2027.

The upcoming board meeting is therefore a critical step in ensuring leadership continuity for the school system. This will be the fourth superintendent of the Pike Road Schools since the system was formed in 2010.

Pike Road Superintendents

  • Dr. Suzanne Freeman (2014–2017)
  • Dr. Chuck Ledbetter (2017–2022)
  • Dr. Keith Lankford (2022–2026)

While details about the incoming superintendent have not yet been publicly released, they will inherit leadership of a district that has experienced significant academic progress, new infrastructure, and community engagement under Dr. Lankford’s tenure.

Community members, parents, and staff are encouraged to attend the May 6 meeting or follow district updates as the announcement is made.

Additional details about the new superintendent and transition plans are expected to be shared following the meeting.
