Pike Road High School has announced the hiring of Samiya Steele as the new head coach of its girls basketball program, ushering in a new era for Lady Patriots basketball.
The school shared the news this week, welcoming Steele with enthusiasm and highlighting a resume built on elite success both as a player and coach. Pike Road Schools officials described Steele as a proven winner who brings “an elite winning mindset” and a strong commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the court.
Steele’s basketball pedigree is among the most decorated in the state. A standout at Hazel Green High School, she was named Alabama Miss Basketball in 2022 and earned Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year honors the same year after leading her team to an undefeated season and a state championship appearance.
Known for her versatility as a guard, Steele averaged 16.8 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game during her award-winning senior season, while earning a reputation as a leader and two-way competitor.
Beyond her playing career, Steele has gained experience at the collegiate level as both an athlete and coach, further strengthening her foundation for leading a high school program. School leaders emphasized that her firsthand experience competing at the highest levels will translate into a culture focused on discipline, accountability, and sustained success.
A meet-and-greet event introducing Steele to players, families, and the community is scheduled Wednesday, April 29th at 5:30 pm, signaling the start of her tenure and an opportunity for athletes to connect with their new coach.
With Steele at the helm, Pike Road goal is to build a championship-caliber program and continue growing the tradition of excellence across its athletics department. Her arrival brings excitement and optimism as the Lady Patriots look ahead to the upcoming season and beyond.
