The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will shift traffic at the intersection of US-80 and SR-126 in Pike Road into a roundabout configuration on Wednesday, April 1, marking the second roundabout opening on this corridor.
Drivers heading west on SR-126 from I-85 northbound will have a continuous lane through the new configuration. Eastbound US-80 traffic will move from a stop-controlled approach to yield-on-entry at the roundabout.
ALDOT says crews will continue work in the area, including construction on the center island, with final paving and permanent striping to follow. Motorists are urged to observe the reduced speed limit and use extra caution around workers and equipment in the work zone.
The first roundabout associated with this project, at US-80 and Marler Road, opened on Wednesday, March 25. According to ALDOT, the contractor remains on schedule to complete the overall roundabout project this spring.
