Pike Road Junior High School (PRJHS) had a big reason to celebrate last week. PRJHS was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and a Lighthouse School, marking a milestone that reflects sustained achievement and a strong school culture.
The school celebrated the achievement with an all-school pep rally filled with pride, energy, and Patriot spirit, as students, staff, and families gathered to recognize the honor and the community-wide effort behind it.
This achievement reflects the hard work of its students, the dedication of its teachers, and the strong leadership of its administration.
The Lighthouse designation is awarded by Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence (BRSE), a nonprofit organization. It is distinct from the federal National Blue Ribbon Schools program administered by the U.S. Department of Education.
The BRSE Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Lighthouse Award is a prestigious national recognition that validates a top-tier learning environment and a school’s commitment to continuous, data-driven improvement.
To earn the honor, schools must achieve a 90% or higher rating across nine rigorous, research-based performance areas: student focus and support; school organization and culture; challenging standards and curriculum; active teaching and learning; technology integration; professional community; leadership; school/family/community partnerships; and indicators of success. Evaluation includes comprehensive surveys of parents, staff, and students, along with classroom observations, and eligible schools must have been in operation for at least 5 years.
Both honors place Pike Road Junior High among top-performing schools nationwide, recognizing high levels of academic excellence, strong leadership, innovative practices, and a commitment to preparing every learner for success.
School leaders, teachers, parents, and students should be proud of this achievement and how the school can build on the momentum from these recognitions to deepen student learning, strengthen professional collaboration, and sustain a culture that supports achievement for all.
