Town of Pike Road Sets Jan. 26 Public Hearing Adoption of New Comprehensive Plan

by Pike Road News

The Town of Pike Road Planning Commission will hold a Special Called Meeting and Public Hearing on Monday, January 26 at 7:00 p.m. to consider adoption of the Town of Pike Road Comprehensive Plan Update. The meeting will take place in the Council Chambers at Pike Road Town Hall, 9575 Vaughn Road.

Mayor Gordon Stone said the comprehensive plan is central to Pike Road’s mission “to maintain character while planning for progress,” a guiding statement crafted in the town’s early years. “We started our first land use plan in 2002, adopted our first version of a comprehensive plan in 2007, revisited it in 2017, and now we’re refreshing it in 2025,” Stone said. “We want to look 25 years forward with one eye and make practical daily decisions with the other so that every day we keep moving forward. The plan is practical and tangible—you go from your theory or your goal to a tangible roadmap for how to get there.”

Stone emphasized that public input drives the update process. “The public input sessions are great because they allow the public to see how we’ve taken the first round of input that they gave us, implemented it, and are now bringing it back to them to give us their second round of perspective on what we’ve done,” he said.

After the public phase, the draft moved to the Planning Commission for review. Now the plan is ready for public review and final adoption. Then any ordinances to support the plan for implementation will come next.

Senior Planner Darrell Rigsby said, “The purpose of the public session was for the staff to take the input based on the conversations, the notes, and the future information, and address any comments or concerns in the draft document,” he said. “The next step will be for this to be published as a full draft on our website—all 200-plus pages of it.”

Rigsby said the full draft is available online for the community “to view, review, provide comments, suggestions, notes, and download.” He continued, “The next step will be for us to finalize the draft and take it to the Planning Commission for consideration of adoption. With that Planning Commission session, there will be a public hearing.”

Calling the comprehensive plan a “living document,” Rigsby noted this update revises the 2017 plan to reflect changes over the past decade. “This is a review of the one that was currently in place,” he said. “It is a revision from the 2017 plan, updating it based on the changes over the last eight to ten years from when that plan was first begun, somewhere around 2015, to its adoption in 2017. So, the area has changed a good bit in many ways over the last 10 years.”

The Town Leadership and the Planning Department encourage residents to review the plan and attend this important meeting. You can download the draft of the comprehensive plan here or click on the image below.
