Troy University has named Jack Jones of Pike Road, Alabama, to “The 87,” the institution’s elite recognition program honoring 87 outstanding juniors, seniors and graduate students for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement.

A junior majoring in Exercise Physiology and a Macon East Academy alumnus, Jones is on track to graduate in spring 2027 and plans to pursue a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He is the son of Jeff and Rachel Jones.
“To be named one of the Top 87 students at Troy is a tremendous honor,” Jones said. “Troy is a school that focuses heavily on academic excellence, as well as campus and community involvement. When I look around at my peers and I see the quality of students that pass through Troy, I realize that I am in great company being named as one of the top students.”
“The 87,” formerly known as “Who’s Who at Troy University,” draws its name from the university’s founding year, 1887. Exactly 87 students are selected annually through an application and review process that considers academic records, campus involvement, meaningful leadership, service and faculty recommendations. Honorees are invited to a reception hosted by the Chancellor and his wife.
Describing the process, Jones said eligibility extends to juniors, seniors and graduate students. “It starts with an application process for the students that are eligible. Application is an overall resume that includes honors, involvement, academic success, and community service. Once the application period closes, a committee selects the top 87 student to be honored.”

Reflecting on the recognition, he added, “It’s truly a honor to be named to The 87. Ever since coming to Troy I have been blessed with such a great community and so many opportunities to be involved. Troy University has helped me to grow so much through my college experience and being honored by that school is amazing.”
His parents, Jeff and Rachel Jones, shared their pride in his achievement. “As Jack’s family, we couldn’t be more proud of him. Being named to The 87 at Troy is such a meaningful honor, and it reflects the hard work, integrity, and heart for others that we see in him every day. His dedication to his academics and his commitment to serving his community make us incredibly grateful and proud to call him ours.”
