Former Pike Road star and UAB’s top receiver Iverson Hooks plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens next month, according to a report from On3. The rising redshirt junior will have two years of eligibility at his next stop.

Hooks is coming off a breakout season in Birmingham, earning second-team American Athletic Conference honors after leading the Blazers with 72 receptions for 927 yards and seven touchdowns. He finished second in the AAC in receptions, third in receiving yards and tied for fourth in receiving touchdowns.
The Pike Road native delivered two of the most prolific single-game performances in program history, becoming the first UAB player to record multiple double-digit catch games in a season. He hauled in 11 passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns against Memphis, then followed with 10 receptions for 146 yards versus South Florida. Hooks is the first UAB receiver since Roddy White to post multiple games with 10 or more receptions and just the third in school history to do so.

Hooks signed with UAB as a three-star prospect in the 2022 class. He redshirted his first season, saw his 2023 campaign cut to three games due to a season-ending injury, and posted 14 catches for 179 yards and a touchdown over 12 games in 2024 before this year’s surge.
A 2022 graduate of Pike Road High School, Hooks led the Patriots to the 2021 state championship as a dual-threat quarterback. He threw for 1,057 yards and 16 touchdowns, rushed for 1,009 yards and 12 scores, and added two interceptions as a defensive back.
