Area fire departments converged in Pike Road on Monday, November 17 for a large-scale, multi-agency training designed to sharpen skills for high-stakes rescue scenarios. The hands-on session, organized by the North American Equipment Company, focused on heavy-duty extrication involving a car and a school bus.
The realistic drill drew attention from passersby as crews practiced stabilizing vehicles and coordinating complex rescues across departments. Fire officials said the training is critical preparation for rare but potentially catastrophic incidents.
“This is just building on the stabilization techniques that they’ve known already and adding one a new tool in these new struts that we have about how to use them,” said Chief Matt Missildine of the Pike Road Fire Department.
Beyond technique, participants emphasized the value of working together before a crisis hits.
“Any time we can get together and do some training, especially on these big heavy vehicles and so forth, like that is really good that we can do a collaborative effort because if something bad happens we’re gonna have to work together,” said Capt. Chad Fowler with Montgomery Fire/Rescue.
