Favorite Fall Traditions Kick Off in the Town of Pike Road

Fall is a special time of year for the Town of Pike Road, celebrating some of its favorite fall traditions: the annual “Hay, Look at Us!” hay bale decorating contest and the Plein Air Paint Out.

The decorated hay bales are on nearly every corner of Pike Road. The 2024 competition has a record number of 72 participants! Judging for the Hay, Look at Us! competition will begin Oct. 20. Winners will be announced Monday, Oct. 20, during the LIVE Monday’s with the Mayor Radio Show which will air from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on the MAX Round Table, WTXK 107.5 FM/1210 AM.

Voting for the People’s Choice Award begins kicks off after the announcement of the winners! Visit the Hay, Look at Us! 2025 album on Facebook and “like” your favorite hay bales to place your votes. The People’s Choice Award voting closes at 10 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26!

A Hay, Look at Us! driving map will be available at pikeroad.us under the events tab and the town’s Facebook page. The hay bales will remain on display through Nov. 3.

Also this weekend, artists from across the River Region and beyond bring their creative spirits and fresh perspectives for the 14th annual Pike Road Plein Air Paint Out. Plein air painting is fast-paced, outside (plein air is French for “outdoors”) painting that focuses on landscapes and scenes’ ever-changing light and colors. A number of activities are planned around Pike Road in conjunction with the Plein Air Paint Out.

This year’s theme is “At Home in Pike Road.” Learn more about where to see the artists in action, and events planned around the Plein Air Paint Out on the town’s website.
