Dr. William “Bill” Cornwell, a long-time resident, business owner in Pike Road, and community advocate, is running for the Town Council Place 3 position. He is motivated by his commitment to the community and a desire to help shape Pike Road’s future for his granddaughter and all Pike Road children.
Cornwell and his wife, Marcie, have called Pike Road home since 2006. “We built our home here because we loved and bought into the vision of what this town could become,” he shared. Over the years, Cornwell has actively participated in town affairs, including door-to-door efforts supporting annexation and school funding, as well as serving many years on the Pike Road Planning Commission. “I believe that the next step in the process is to do what I can for our town as a member of the Town Council,” he said.
With a background as a small business owner, Cornwell is uniquely qualified for the position. He ran a dental practice for 42 years, including 12 years right here in Pike Road, becoming the town’s first medical facility in 2007. In addition, he has owned three other successful businesses in Pike Road over the last 19 years. “I feel qualified to represent small business owners in Pike Road,” Cornwell noted, emphasizing his understanding of growth management within state laws and property rights.
Addressing Pike Road’s most pressing challenges, Cornwell highlighted the need to balance growth with preserving the town’s charm. “Growth is going to happen, so how can we sustain the charming character of Pike Road while controlling the manner in which it happens?” he asked. Drawing on his extensive planning experience—including involvement in two comprehensive plans—he expressed confidence in guiding the town through its next phase.
Collaboration with the Mayor and fellow Town Council members is also a priority for Cornwell. “We don’t always agree on everything, but we’ve been able to work together,” he said, underscoring a commitment to teamwork and shared goals for Pike Road’s wellbeing.
To keep residents informed and engaged, Cornwell plans to promote transparency and encourage open dialogue. Recalling a successful community forum he hosted at his local Hole in the Wall Coffee, he advocated for regular gatherings with neighbors, local organizations, and neighborhood associations. Furthermore, he supports Town Council members sharing direct contact information via social media to enhance communication.
Supporting locally owned businesses remains close to Cornwell’s heart. With first-hand experience running multiple small enterprises, he vows to listen to business owners’ needs and advocate for their success. Public safety also remains a top concern. He expressed gratitude for the Pike Road Volunteer Fire Department and local sheriff’s office, recognizing their vital roles in protecting the community.
For Cornwell, Pike Road is more than a town—it’s home. “Our granddaughter will be in the 1st grade at Pike Road Elementary School. The future of Pike Road is of paramount importance to me—for her sake, as well as for all children and families in our town,” he said.
Cornwell is married to his wife, Marcie. Have three grown children. Their son, his wife, and their daughter are all residents of Pike Road.
