Jennifer Blake Ioimo, a long-time Montgomery resident with deep roots in public service and community involvement, is running for the Pike Road Town Council Place 5 seat.
From a young age, Ioimo’s passion for politics was sparked during the 1992 Clinton presidential election, the first election she recalls vividly. Having moved to Montgomery at age 10 from just outside Houston, her early experiences laid the groundwork for a lifelong dedication to civic engagement.
Her journey into politics and leadership began in seventh grade when her yearbook teacher, Kay McGaughey, introduced her to the YMCA’s Youth and Government program. Ioimo actively participated from seventh grade through high school, gaining invaluable hands-on experience with state and city government. She continued this engagement into college through collegiate legislature work and has since served on the Brittan YMCA Board for over 15 years, supporting youth programs and remaining deeply connected to the community.
Educated with a Bachelor’s degree in History, Political Science, and Criminal Justice from Judson College and a Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in non-profit administration, leadership, and healthcare administration from Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM), Ioimo brings both academic preparation and practical leadership experience. Throughout her career, she has served on numerous nonprofit boards including the Junior League Board of Directors, the American Cancer Society Board—where she helped lead fundraising efforts like the inaugural Crawfish Boil—and the Junior Board for the Montgomery Museum.
Having previously served on the Mayor’s Council under former Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange, Ioimo’s desire to serve Pike Road specifically has grown as she and her family have lived in the town nearly a decade. “We plan to raise our children here,” she said, inspired by the town’s community feel and excellent schools. Her daughter will enter first grade at Pike Road Elementary next year after a rewarding kindergarten experience.
Ioimo’s campaign focuses on preserving Pike Road’s small-town charm and family-friendly atmosphere amid ongoing growth. She emphasizes the importance of developing and sustaining parks and recreation facilities across all neighborhoods, noting the success of community events such as the recent movie night at Station Three Park. Ideas for the future include creating walking trails, expanding youth sports programs, and possibly establishing a dog park modeled after Montgomery’s Shakespeare Park.
Recognizing Pike Road’s growing diversity, including many military families affiliated with nearby Maxwell Air Force Base, Ioimo proposes a newcomers group and resource packet to help residents connect with community services and each other, fostering retention and involvement.
Public safety is another priority for Ioimo, whose family has a strong law enforcement background. Her father-in-law served as Deputy Police Chief in Simi Valley, CA, and her husband is a volunteer firefighter in Pike Road. She supports continued collaboration with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and the growth of local fire and emergency medical services.
Central to Ioimo’s vision is effective communication and collaboration. She plans to engage residents directly through neighborhood meetings, social media platforms, and accessible online forms for feedback, ensuring that she remains attuned to community concerns and ideas throughout her term.
Finally, Ioimo is committed to thoughtful, balanced growth that preserves Pike Road’s character. “What do you want the entrance of Pike Road to look like? What emotions do you want people to feel when they come here?” she asks, emphasizing the importance of cohesive development and long-range planning to maintain the town’s charm while accommodating economic needs.
