As a way to provide educational opportunities for K-12 students, Alabama created the Alabama CHOOSE Act, officially recognized as the “Creating Hope and Opportunity for Our Students’ Education” Act, in 2024.
In an effort to educate and enlighten families about the CHOOSE Act and its implications, Macon East Academy will host a Question & Answer session in the Macon East Cafeteria on Sunday, March 23rd, at 2 p.m.
The goal of the session is to provide comprehensive details regarding eligibility, operational procedures, funding availability, and more. Importantly, this event is open to all families, irrespective of current enrollment status at Macon East Academy.

The CHOOSE Act Q&A session will be an opportunity for families to gain clarity and understanding about this pivotal program,” noted Coach Glynn Lott, Headmaster Macon East Academy. “We encourage all interested parties to join us, regardless of their current affiliation with the academy, and equip themselves with the facts necessary to make empowered choices for their family’s educational journey.”
The CHOOSE Act Q&A session promises to provide vital insights and clarify any uncertainties regarding this educational initiative. All concerned parties are encouraged to attend and participate to gain a better understanding of the opportunities presented by the Alabama CHOOSE Act.
The CHOOSE Act legislation, signed into law by Governor Kay Ivey on March 7, 2024, is designed to provide refundable income tax credits through education savings accounts (ESAs) to support students across the state.
ESAs under the CHOOSE Act can be utilized to cover tuition, fees, and qualified educational expenses at approved Education Service Providers (ESPs) in Alabama.
The Alabama Department of Revenue oversees the framework and funding allocation for ESAs, determining specific amounts based on student’s enrollment status and family income levels. Notably, the Act also incorporates a priority system for awarding ESAs, emphasizing special-needs students, siblings of participating students, and dependents of active-duty service members enrolled in or assigned to priority schools.
