The Pike Road Schools recently released a new edition of its Pike Road Recap, featuring various highlights from the school community.
New Year’s Lunch: Three C-2 classes celebrated the beginning of the new year with a story and lunch. They started the day by reading the book, Shante’ Keys and the New Year’s Peas by Gail Piernas-Davenport. In the story, Shante’ visits her neighbors looking for black-eyed-peas to eat for lunch. Along the way, she learns how her neighbors celebrate the new year! The classes celebrated some New Year traditions with a pot-luck and resolutions.
No More Chairs: Mrs. Gulsby’s fourth-grade class experienced what it’s like when workers go on strike. While the students were away for winter break, the chairs decided they’d had enough disrespect and went on strike, stating that the students were not treating the chairs very kindly. When students walked into the classroom, they could see the chairs piled up with caution tape and a note explaining why they were unhappy. Students had to adapt to learning without chairs for a few days before writing an apology letter to the chairs with a promise to be more respectful.
Commit to Graduate: Pike Road Junior High’s C7 Class of 2030 made a commitment to graduate in five years, promising to themselves, their families, teachers, and the community that they will reach this important milestone. This annual ceremony encourages students to focus on their goals and take steps to achieve them.
High Expectations Night: Pike Road High School hosted their 3rd annual High Expectations Night. Families were invited to learn about high school academics, athletics, and fine arts programs. The event began with a presentation from high school administrators, counselors, teachers, coaches, and students sharing valuable information on graduation requirements, Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment options, Career Tech, Athletic, and Fine Art opportunities.
