The Pike Road community has the opportunity to come together and support the Summer Feeding Program through the innovative Empty Bowls event. This event was inspired by a member of the P.R.A.Y.E.R. Team. The Empty Bowls event will fund the Summer Feeding Program for those fighting hunger in our community.
The concept is simple yet powerful: local potters craft handcrafted bowls, and guests are invited to a humble meal of soup and bread. In exchange for their ticket, attendees not only enjoy a communal gathering but also take home a handmade bowl as a poignant reminder of the empty bowls in our communities. All funds raised from the event on February 11th will be dedicated to supporting the P.R.A.Y.E.R. Team Summer Feeding Program.
The P.R.A.Y.E.R. Team, in collaboration with partners like the Heart of Alabama Food Bank and Publix, spearheads the Summer Feeding Program for the fourth year in a row. This vital program aims to provide meals to individuals facing hunger during the summer months when school meal programs are inactive. Exclusive to Town of Pike Road residents, the initiative offers no-cost meals to families throughout the summer vacation period.
The handmade bowls showcased at the event have been meticulously crafted by local artists, symbolizing not only artistic creativity but also the community’s dedication to combating hunger. These unique pieces of artwork serve as tokens of support for those in need while emphasizing the commitment to making a difference.
Anticipating a significant impact, the funds raised during the Empty Bowls event will directly contribute to covering the meal costs for the Summer Feeding Program. The community’s participation is crucial in ensuring the success of the program, with previous efforts having distributed over 6,000 units of food to approximately 1,500 families.
The ENHANCE initiative committee, composed of leaders from local churches and organizations, plays a vital role in coordinating the Summer Feeding Program and ensuring the needs of Pike Road residents are met. With the ongoing support of various community entities, including Antioch Baptist Church, Pike Road Schools, and more, the program continues to thrive and expand its reach.
