Many have been asking and wondering about the status of Merry Corners being developed on the corner of Vaughn and Pike roads. In a recent interview with Charlie Trotman of The Trotman Company, he shared some exciting updates on the Merry Corners development.
Merry Corners finally received approval from the Town of Pike Road Planning and Zoning Commission last month. With this critical step secured, the project is now poised to move forward swiftly towards completion.
Over the coming weeks, the focus will be on finalizing landscaping and other crucial elements of the development, with construction set to commence in January on the main shopping center, followed by the outparcels.
One of the key highlights of the Merry Corners project is its architectural style, which is set to mirror the design of the Shops at Pike Road, a neighboring development anchored by Publix, also developed by The Trotman Company. The design philosophy incorporates sustainable and eco-friendly practices, including LEED principles, and other green components aimed at enhancing the environmental footprint of the development.
Accessibility and inclusivity are key considerations with the Merry Corners development and the commitment to ADA compliance will be evident throughout the project. From designated handicap parking spaces to wheelchair ramps and ADA-compliant facilities, every aspect of the development is carefully designed to cater to customers with diverse needs.
There will be an outdoor gathering space between the two buildings in the main shopping center. Once complete, it will include seating and gathering spaces with the availability to host live music on select weekends.
Anticipation is high for the tenants expected to be located in the main shopping center. They have three available spots but the current planned tenants include a diverse mix of services for the residents of Pike Road – from a pharmacy and sports bar to restaurants, physical therapy services, hair salons, and more. Additionally, businesses occupying the outparcels will be Baptist Health, River Bank, and Trust, and McDonald’s.
Prior to finalization of the development, The Trotman Company conducted a comprehensive traffic study to address concerns around traffic flow at the intersection of Pike and Vaughn Roads. The development will include a new traffic light at the common entrance the new development shares with the Shops at Pike Road. They will also include accel/decel lanes and ample parking facilities incorporated into the development plan.
A major part of any new development for a town like Pike Road is the number of jobs the development will create. Trotman stated that the development will create around 150 full-time and part-time jobs when it is fully open. During the development and construction phase, they anticipate employing a similar number of jobs. Merry Corners is set to make a significant impact on the local employment landscape and generate additional sales tax revenue benefiting Pike Road Schools.
As construction progresses, The Trotman Company remains dedicated to minimizing any adverse effects on the surrounding neighborhoods. The development includes a large detention pond as part of the project, ensuring that no runoff leaves the site any faster than it did before the project and contributing to the overall aesthetic appeal and sustainability of the development.
With its strategic location at the corner of Pike and Vaughn roads, Merry Corners is expected to be a vibrant development within the Pike Road community, fostering a sense of connection and engagement among residents and businesses alike.
